4 Questions to Help You Find Your Calling | SuperSoul Sunday | Oprah Winfrey Network

how do we who don't consider ourselves who aren't artists in the sense of producing art that we can that's tangible poetry or music or writing or painting how can I apply that to my own life well I think it kind of I believe that everybody has a calling of some kind oh god however odd or weird or humble and the way that we there are certain tricks you can use to find it most people I think you are for sure right about that if we stopped and could talk to every person that is watching us right now and turn to them and said what is it that you're calling people would know they'd know it'd be a secret in their heart I know I should do this you know another there are ways there are tricks that you can find out that one thing is to say what are you more afraid of than anything in the world or what would you do if you knew you were going to die in three months what would be the last thing that you would do what would you do it's the old thing that you've heard before you know if fear were not a fact yeah your money we're not a factor so if there is a calling that thing that you're afraid of whatever it is yeah then what if you're watching right now for GoPro do it what if you what if you're watching right now and I I do a lot of speaking around the country and I just did seven speaking engagements seven cities and in Canada this past winter and spoke specifically to that started every one of my gatherings saying everybody has a calling and the real question is to figure your real job in life is to figure that that's the job is to figure out why are you here and get about the business and what sort of response did you get well a lot of people were said that the reason I'm bringing this up is because you said everybody if we were to ask them right now what is the calling they would know I've run into people who don't know I mean I actually I was sort of fearful if that's what the answer would be that I weren't allowed people don't know but you know it's unfortunate there's a lot reality they think they think they think they don't know because they think it has to be some big thing that's what I'm saying so they're not well keyed in so he doesn't let me get another subject okay when we were talking about resistance before as a form of self-sabotage right yeah it's a voice in our own it yes but in the real world we also get sabotage by other people yes and this is a kind of a mystic it's a really mysterious and dark phenomenon if you ask me yeah this question is kind of where do we get the idea that we're not worthy when we're little people tell us we're not worthy yes and when we're little and we start to show signs of going towards the light that's right people that are close to us are threatened by that because it's a terrible thing to say but it's true and because they want us they want to have us you know they want to keep us so they or they tell you I'd open rain all over you or say your how are you gonna be a writer you're not going to make a living being a writer are you going to do that yes right and so you squash that part of yourself in order to please or to wrap peas you internalize that voice and then it comes back and haunt you but even even if that voice wasn't there resistance itself will be giving you that voice but there are sabotage by others is also a very real thing yeah but most of us sabotage ourselves yeah we can do enough of a job that without any help and why is it that you get right to the point where it's almost gonna be you know I've seen people do it over and over and over I've done it myself several times where you just literally sabotage yourself it's almost it you're almost there you're almost there and then you do something to blow it absolutely and that's why it's called the war of art because you have exactly that you have to not be aware of it and keep getting up earlier and earlier and get stronger and stronger to fight it particularly the closer to the end you come to to realizing your dream or manifesting your dream you

  1. Jim Morrison was a very primal and sensitive soul. His father was an admiral in Viet Nam. The father wrote a letter that was brutal telling him he had no talent for singing or performing or poetry. I have always felt that devestation drove him to drink. After he died the same father admitted he was one of the greatest performers or channelers of group energy to live. Jim had to be free and his family was conventional and constrained to the point of strangling his personality type. I suggest everyone read the Briggs-Myer Personality type book. Then fauvist like me and Morrison don't have to internalize the rejection by other "conventional" types. Both types are absolutely normal. Just an ENFJ is 1% of the population so I've gotten lots of familiar push back vs lots of clinician support. Oscar Wilde said "Be yourself, everyone else is taken". I take this as a warning. Be yourself or destroy yourself by rejecting your true nature. You are not here to simply suffer and endure judgement.

  2. As a metaphysical theologian, my thought is that your "only" job is NOT to "find your purpose" — it's to fulfill your purpose, to live it, to express it. Your purpose is not necessarily pre-ordained. If it were, life would be a cruel joke to a lot of people who can't "find" their purpose. It's not outside of you, it's not a secret thing you have to look for and find. Sometimes it feels like we've "found" it or "discovered" it, but ultimately we choose our purpose. So if you're not sure of your purpose, choose something that inspires you, what is meaningful, something that contributes to a better world, even if that means caring for just one person and helping them to have a dignified, better life thanks to you. Just to love is enough. Our collective purpose is really about learning to love better. How you do that is a choice.

  3. Some people know their "calling" right from when they were little but a lot of people don't. Even those searching for many years. Sometimes you have to look at your life as a whole and see where it is leading you. For some may have more than one "calling".

  4. if you want to know what the greatest sages have said ….."try to know your Self" – this is the calling of every human being on the earth, no matter where or when they lived.

  5. I can’t remember what this guy was saying because she kept going on about her own thing. Why an interview when she can have a monologue. One of the worst interviews (on her side) I’ve ever seen.

  6. If you are left pondering, you could always look at your north node in your astrological natal chart and the house it sits in. This will give you an hypothetical purpose in life (or more a major karmic obstacle you will have to go through in your life). You don't have to believe in that. In fact it's better to always question everything in life. But you could be surprised too.

  7. While I totally agree that Oprah was relentlessly interruptive, and I did feel frustrated for the nice man who was simply trying to engage, as well as for my own listening enjoyment, however, I must admit that this was the universe showing me the perfect mirror of myself, as I at times can be the way Oprah was and It's embarrassing, so to that end, I thank Oprah for another soul lesson;)

  15. Me, too. If people know what their gifts were, what their purpose on Earth was, they wouldn't have to ask anyone else. When Mr Pressfield said what would you do if you were gonna die in three months? If fear or money was not a factor? I can't even answer this question. And Oprah bragging about her success doesn't help. She knows her purpose in life, and she's lucky. She shouldn't be surprised that lots of people do not know. I was also discouraged from my dreams as a child, but does that mean what I wanted when I was 6 is my path in life now?

  16. I still think that a calling is a result of a life time experiences. Trying to figure it out desperately seems to be the trendy pathology and it becomes an obsessive quest.
Going for desires is a human purpose. But I think looking for a purpose is pointless. Only the Quest remains meaningful.

  17. oprah (lower case on purpose) is such a complete narcissist. Why must she talk over her guests? Why must she try to top every experience her guest has? Why does she think she knows more about subjects than her guests? Why can't she figure out how to count calories? #classicnarcissist

  18. But money IS a factor….have to pay the bills. You can have a decent job though and volunteer doing what you love on the side. We do let others influence us bad or good, especially our parents and us.

  19. everybody does know their calling. in their heart. ask yiur true self, your higger self, your heart what you REALLY are meant to do or can do, the answer will come.:) you need to get into a quiet and divine state to get the answer. ask and seek for the answer, you'll get it 🙂

  20. enjoy what freedom you have left big mama………you'll look good in a orange jump suite soon enough………your crimes against humanity have not gone unnoticed
