The greatest love story ever told, starring…garden gnomes? In “Gnomeo & Juliet,” Shakespeare’s revered tale gets a comical, off-the-wall makeover. Directed by Kelly Asbury (co-director of “Shrek 2”) and showcasing both classic and original songs by Elton John, the film features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet. The title characters have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they find themselves caught up in a feud between neighbors. With plastic pink flamingos and thrilling lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find a happy ending?

  1. Gnomeo is played by James Mcavoy, and Shakesphere is played by Patrick Stewart. Its strange how both actors who played Professor X from the X-men movies are in this scene together?

  2. I'm well aware of the sophistication and significance of Shakespeare, but I have to go with Gnomeo on this one: there's definitely got to be a better ending than the protagonists simply resorting to suicide. I mean, really! Shakespeare always had a weird knack for this death business. In almost all of his plays, at least one or two major characters suffer a horrible, grisly death.

Sheesh, Shakespeare, lighten up, will you?

  3. THEY BOTH DIE WHAT KIND OF ENDING IS THAT!!!
My dear boy this is a tragedy
